Lamar FFA Chapter congratulates the third member within the last five years to compete in the FFA Heifer Wrangle Program. Jesse Shelton, a freshman from Lamar High School will take the responsibility of being this year’s Heifer Wrangler. Shelton is sponsored by DTM Cattle (Lamar, CO), Kenny and Teresa Burns (Hotchkiss, CO), and AA Plumbing (Longmont, CO). These generous sponsors have granted this young entrepreneur a $1,500 voucher to purchase a heifer in exchange for letters and updates about himself and his heifer project. He will meet his sponsors and receive his monetary award at the National Western Stock Show in Denver on Thursday, January 24th. Other requirements include showing at the 2013 Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, keeping accurate records, and reporting his experience at the FFA State Convention in June 2014. Shelton is excited to start his project; he would like to learn about the showing aspect of the beef industry. Shelton is hoping to expand his herd and his knowledge with this tremendous opportunity given to him by the Colorado FFA Association. He is planning to purchase an Angus Cross heifer to launch his beef breeding Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) and begin his venture in the Colorado Heifer Wrangle.
