Granada Honor Guard Leads the Saturday Parade
Wiley was just as hot as Granada. A portion of Main Street was sectioned off Saturday, so booths and vendors could be set up to entertain the crowd. Kids were running and playing at the town center and finding ways to amuse themselves, from an egg-toss contest, to a water balloon-dunking seat. It didn’t vary long for Wiley residents to line up for the annual Sloppy Joe lunch served by the Lions Club members at the downtown center. Once the meal was over, people began to line up along the street for the 1:30pm parade and the rest of the day’s activities.
Towards evening, the focus of attention turned to Lamar and the Prowers County Fairgrounds arena for the Saturday night Demolition Derby. Thirteen contestants entered the annual event which offered trophies and cash prizes for the top, or most durable cars and drivers. There was a good turnout, as the stands at the fairgrounds were almost at capacity. It took a few minutes between events as officials were busy picking up bumpers, fenders and other parts that got crunched by the collisions.
