Prowers Medical Center is pleased to announce that five (5) individuals from surrounding healthcare organizations have successfully completed a 40-hour training course for Medical Interpreters.
Prowers Medical Center holds a Level 2 licensure designation through the Bridging the Gap (BTG): Medical Interpreter Training Program allowing us to offer training to other organizations within our surrounding communities.
Bridging the Gap is nationally recognized as a training introductory course to the medical interpreting field giving students a strong foundation for the professional standards associated with medical interpretation. The course helps students understand how the US healthcare system works and their role within it; covers basic anatomy and medical terminology; examines cultural differences in healing practices; and delves into professional ethics, boundaries, advocacy, and conduct.
Professional and high-quality foreign language interpreters are a crucial part of healthcare delivery as we continue to serve a growing and diverse population of immigrants and patients with limited or no English proficiency. Delivering accurate medical information to the patients and healthcare providers can save lives.
Prowers Medical Center is very proud of our second course graduates! Congratulations to the following individuals who passed their final exam in July and received their certificate of successful completion: Janet Alvarado Cano, Prowers Medical Group, Ana Barrera Gutierrez, Prowers Medical Center; Claudia V. Coronado Marta, Prowers/Baca Options for Long Term Care; Luis Diaz, Hamilton County; and Myda Santoyo, Baca County Public Health Agency.
Please contact Elia Trujillo, Language Coordinator at Prowers Medical Center by calling 719.336.7150 for more information about the Bridging the Gap training course. The next 40-hour community training session has been scheduled for the month of October.
