Several GOP candidates for state level offices will be in Prowers County and southeast Colorado this week. On the heels of last week’s local candidate forum sponsored by Voices of Southeast Colorado, several events are scheduled for a ‘meet the public’ opportunity before the June 24 Primary Election.
Scott Renfroe, candidate for the 4th Congressional District will meet the pubic to speak about issues of concern on Tuesday, June 3, at 6pm at Brew Unto Others on South Main Street in Lamar. Gubernatorial candidate, Mike Kopp has planned a picnic visit for Wednesday, June 4, at 12”30 at Willow Creek Park. The pot luck BBQ will feature hot dogs from the grill and other foods supplied by the local Republican Party. Kopp will travel that afternoon to the Holly ag Gateway Park at 3:30 in the afternoon.
No specific candidate is attached to Restoring Colorado, scheduled to host a public meeting this Friday, June 6, at 6pm at the Lamar Cultural Events Center. Restoring Colorado’s goal is to restructure the Colorado State Legislature with a model similar to the federal model in which representation in the House in Colorado would be based on land area. Each county in the state would have its own representative, from 65 to 64. There would be 35 senators, with those numbers based on population of their areas.
Contact Janet Marriott, Prowers County Republican Chairman, for more information regarding the candidates visits at 719-688-9062. Some assistance is still needed for the logistics of the visits.
