Beware: Telephone Scam on Utility Bills

Citizens, 

In an effort to protect citizens the City of Lamar Police Department and Lamar Light and Power want to inform you of scam information.  A person or company has been calling citizens and businesses to inform them that they needed to pay a light bill over the telephone in order to keep their power service.  When pursued the company calling advised they were a collections company for Lamar Light and Power, this is not the case. 

Please report anyone calling on behalf of the City of Lamar.  Do not release any information over the telephone, this includes account numbers.  If you have any questions about your bill please contact Lamar Light and Power at 336-7456.
