Craft Nights Successful at the Lamar Public Library

Lamar Public Library Back Entrance

It is our mission to create a space where community members feel comfortable and have fun creating new and interesting things. The library is also becoming a place to collaborate and share ideas that will enhance our community and inspire future projects. We believe by being creative our community will grow stronger and add value to the library as well as the community itself.

Have you ever wanted to learn to crochet or improve your crochet skills? In October library employees Sheri Eirhart and Jamie Peck displayed their crocheting techniques with Crochet 101. Together they gave a great introduction to crochet basics; ranging from how to hold the crochet hook, slip knots and then advancing to triple crochet. Jamie encouraged those in attendance to go home and practice making squares of the stitches they learned in preparation for the next crochet night.

November featured library staff member Shandra Esquivel who demonstrated the no sew t-shirt scarves, a popular Do-It-Yourself (DIY) trend! The project was easy and fun! We all have those old T-shirts we love and can’t bear to part with even when they don’t fit anymore, or have holes in the armpits but we love the color and they are just oh-so- soft! Recycle them!! The next time you see a scarf around town it might just happen to be a t-shirt scarf!

Keep your eyes and ears open… more craft nights will be coming soon!
