State Board Visits Lamar Community College

Lamar Community College

(Lamar, Colorado; October 7, 2013) On Thursday, October 3, 2013 and Friday, October 4, 2013 the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education (SBCCOE) and the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) President and Executive Staff had their annual visit to the Lamar Community College campus. In attendance were John Trefny, SBCCOE Chair, Russ Meyer, SBCCOE 3rd District Representative and his wife Helga Meyer, Ken Weil, SBCCOE 1st District Representative, Dr. Nancy McCallin, President of Colorado Community College System, and Rhonda Bentz, CCCS Director of Media and Government Relations.

Frontier History Encampment 2

This year LCC highlighted some of the extracurricular activities taking place in Lamar and the surrounding area. On Thursday night a chuck wagon dinner was held for the board in the front lawn by the administration building. Also in attendance were LCC Advisory Council members, LCC Foundation members, LCC Booster Club members, LCC Foundation Presidential Scholars, President’s Council members along with their guests.

On Friday morning the board was taken to Granada, CO for a tour of Camp Amache, a Japanese Internment camp during WWII. After returning from Granada the board attended slack performances at the Antelope Stampede at the Prowers County Fairgrounds.

Before heading to lunch at the Kelly Union Cafeteria they were given a tour of the Equine Complex by John Marrin, LCC president. After lunch the group attended the Frontier History Encampment, a bi-annual event at LCC that features living historians portraying key figures from 1800-1900.

Lamar Community College would like to thank the SBCCOE and CCCS visitors for making the trip from Denver for the annual visit.
