David Mason of Colorado Springs is the Poet Laureate of Colorado. Mason is an accomplished poet and he serves as the co-director of the creative writing program at Colorado College. As the Poet Laureate, Mason serves as an advocate for poetry and literacy at several events each year including presenting the opening poem for the legislative session, visiting local schools, participating in Arts & Humanities Month, and reading at literary festivals. Mason says he intends to travel to all 64 Colorado counties, visiting schools, libraries, hospitals and more to share, teach, and encourage poetry.
Mason will be visiting the Lamar Public Library on Wednesday, October 23rd. His visit will consist of two events: a poetry workshop and poetry reading. The poetry workshop will run from 10:00am to 1:00pm. There is a $10.00 fee for the program which includes lunch. Please RSVP for the poetry workshop by calling the library at 719-336-4632. Later that evening, at 7:00pm, there will be a poetry reading that is open to the public and completely free.
