Motorcycle Fatality on Highway 50 in Otero County

The Colorado State Patrol investigated a traffic crash involving a 2003 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle that resulted in one serious injury and one fatality. The crash occurred on Colorado 50 approximately one mile east of the town of Manzanola, in Otero County.
The Honda was traveling westbound on Colorado 50 when it went off the right side of the road and collided with a guard rail. After impact, the driver and passenger were ejected from the Honda. After impact, the Honda continued westbound on Colorado 50 on the shoulder and collided with the guard rail again. The Honda continued westbound for a short distance and rolled ¼ time came to rest on its left side facing west. The driver of the Honda came to rest off the north shoulder, 60 feet west of the initial point of impact. The passenger of the Honda came to rest 16 feet west of the driver.
The Honda’s driver was 52-year-old Dale Muth of La Junta. Mr. Muth was wearing a helmet prior to the crash. Mr. Muth sustained serious injuries and was transported to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to Parkview Medical Center. The Honda’s passenger was 51-year-old Susie Muth of La Junta. Mrs. Muth was wearing a helmet prior to the crash. Mrs. Muth sustained fatal injuires and was pronounced deceased at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.
At this time, alcohol use and drug use are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash.
