At 12:40 pm on September 28, fire personnel were dispatched to 702 South 12th Street in Lamar on report of a possible structure fire in an abandoned house where kids were playing with fire.  Initial dispatch was to the area of West Walnut and South 13th Streets but was rerouted to South 12th and West Chestnut in the alley behind the home.  The building was an abandoned garage.  On arrival at the scene, fire personnel stated that the fire was out.  Engine 2 continued to assist with a water can to put out the smoldering ashes from paper and dry leaves.  It is believed that children in the area were playing with fire.  Lamar Police remained on the scene to gather evidence.
