At 9:04 am on August 29, fire personnel were dispatched to 412 North 7th Street in Lamar on report of a vehicle fire. The owner of the vehicle stated that she was driving her van and noticed the smell of fuel while driving. She stated that hater she parked for a bit at her home, she returned to the vehicle and smelled fuel again. When she started her vehicle, she noticed a large fire flash and the engine caught fire. The owner retreated to her residence, asked the occupants to exit the front of the home, and notified the Lamar Fire Department. Most of the electrical and plastic parts of the engine were burned or melted, and the fuel odor was still noticeable. Fire personnel cut into the hood of the car, exposed the hood latch, and were able to extinguish the rest of the flames. No extension of flames was found and there was no damage to the rest of the body of the vehicle. No damage was done to the residential property despite the vehicle being approximately 3-4 feet from a wooden fence and garage door.
