Volunteer Camp Host Openings, Spend the Summer in Colorado

DENVER – Colorado Parks and Wildlife is looking for Volunteer Camp Hosts for the 2013 summer season. Being a camp host is a great way to spend the summer enjoying the outdoors and helping out at wildlife areas, hatcheries or campgrounds.
Camp hosts are expected to perform a variety of light duties in exchange for free camping. Work duties vary by location. In most situations, camp hosts are expected to meet and greet visitors, answer questions and help keep the location clean.
Camp hosts are able to enjoy hiking, wildlife viewing, camping, fishing and other outdoor activities in addition to helping state park, hatchery and state wildlife area staff in a diversity of settings.
The following properties are looking for good, qualified volunteers to hire:
CENTRAL COLORADO
Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (Chaffee County) – The campgrounds here are primitive; there are no hookups for water or electricity, and no trash pick-up. Hosts are required to work at least 20-hours a week, 2 – 6 hosts are needed, and couples are welcome! Camp hosts needed Memorial Day through Labor Day. Chalk Cliffs Hatchery (Chaffee County) – Full hook ups are available at this site beneath the Sawatch Mountain Range. Hosts are needed Memorial Day through Labor Day for Hatchery tours. Schedules are flexible. Contact Jena Sanchez at 719-227-5204 or jena.sanchez@state.co.us.
NORTHEAST COLORADO
Boyd Lake State Park (Larimer County) – This site has full hook ups. Hosts are required to stay a minimum of two months and are needed May thru September. Duties include cleaning chores, assisting in daily operation, passing out information, and more. One winter host is also needed. Contact Greg Freeberg at 970-669-1739 ext 15.
SOUTHEAST COLORADO
John Martin Reservoir State Park (Bent County) – This eastern plains site has full hookups. The park needs 1 – 2 hosts from May through September with a minimum stay of at least 2 months. Trailer size is limited to 40 feet or less. Contact Scott Reffel at 719-829-1801 or scott.reffel@state.co.us.
Pueblo Hatchery (Pueblo County) – This shaded RV site has no sewer hookups. Assist with daily hatchery tours, visitor center and restroom opening & maintenance. Hosts are needed Memorial weekend through Labor Day. Contact Jena Sanchez 719-227-5204 or email to jena.sanchez@state.co.us.
NORTHWEST COLORADO
Steamboat Lake State Park (Routt County) – Two host sites: The Dutch Hill campsite has electric and water hookups; the Sunrise Vista campsite has full hook ups. Flexible schedule. Hosts needed Memorial Day thru Labor Day with minimum stay requirements from mid-June thru Labor Day. The park needs 2 – 3 hosts. Trailer size limited to 35-feet or less. Sylvan Lake State Park (Eagle County) – Water and sewage hook ups are available. Solar power is available for limited electrical use. No cell phone coverage or Internet is available at the site, but is at the visitor center. A single host or couple is needed May thru September, with minimum stay of 3 – 5 months. SOUTHWEST COLORADO
Dan Noble State Wildlife Area / Miramonte Reservoir (San Miguel County) – Limited sewage and electric hook ups, no water hookups. Hosts are needed daily mid-May through late September, working at least 4 to 5 hours per day, including weekends. Interview is required for this position. Paonia State Park (Gunnison County) – Full hook ups are available on two sites. Hosts are required to work at least 20-hours a week, mandatory holidays and weekends. Two hosts are needed May thru Labor Day and must stay the whole time. Each host couple will get two consecutive days off per week. Contact Scott Rist at 970-921-5721 or scott.rist@state.co.us.
Sweitzer Lake State Park (Delta County) – Full hook ups are available at the host site. Hosts are required to work at least 20-hours a week, with required weekends and holidays.
