NWS Hydrology/August Precip Report

 

Temperatures were generally 1 to 3 degrees above average across southern Colorado during August.  Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Alamosa were 2.5, 1.9 and 0.6 degrees above average, respectively.

Precipitation was generally below average across southern Colorado this past August.  The primary observation sites at Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Alamosa were 3.22, 2.08 and 0.77 inches respectively.

 Streamflow and soil moister were both below average across the Arkansas and Upper Rio Grande Basins at the end of August.  Overall reservoir storage levels were also running below average.  At the end of July, combined reservoir storage levels in the Arkansas Basin were around 64% of average, while combined levels in the Upper Rio Grande Basin were around 52% of average. 

The outlook for September through November from the NWS Climate Prediction Center, indicates that precipitation has equal chances to be at, above or below average while temperatures ill most likely be above average.
