Lamar Downtown Branding Project Moves Forward

The Lamar City Council held a brief meeting this past Monday, September 24, during which time, a new police officer, Vince Dravecky, was given his oath of office by Mayor Roger Stagner.

City Administrator, John Sutherland provided a calendar update on future events relating to city and community activities. Sutherland mentioned Lamar Community College will host their 75th anniversary kick-off event, Thursday, September 27 at the Rodeway Cow Palace Inn between 6pm and 9pm. The event will feature dinner and a dance. The monthly informal council breakfast will be held between 7am and 8am on Wednesday, October 3, at the Hickory House Restaurant. The public is encouraged to attend. The Lamar Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Oktoberfest celebration at chamber offices and the Enchanted Forest, Saturday, October 6. A beer garden, festive music, vendors and a car show will be featured. Voces Unidas will host their annual banquet at the Eagles Lodge, Friday, October 13 with a 5:30pm meet and greet and dinner at 6pm. The featured speaker is Jermaine Stafford, Rocky Mountain SER, Director of Youth and Community Service Division, Director of Pecos Community Center.

In other action, Joe Giadone was re-appointed to the VALE board for a three-year term, expiring August, 2015. Shawna Hodge, Main Street Director, spoke with the council regarding developments on completing a unique brand for Lamar Partnership, Inc. for use in future promotions for downtown business development in Lamar. Initial plans call for painting street light posts, flower pots and refuse receptacles along Main Street, between the railroad and Oak Street to develop an identifiable theme for the city. Hodge said she would contact CDOT authorities for permission, if needed, to paint the light posts. The council gave the go-ahead for the project which should be completed by early winter. The next city council meeting will be held on Monday, October 8.
