LCC 75th Anniversary Kick-Off

(Lamar, Colorado; August 15, 2012) Lamar Community College is proud to observe its 75th birthday during the upcoming 2012-2013 academic year. In honor of this milestone LCC will be celebrating throughout the year with a variety of activities and events. The first community event will be LCC’s 75th Anniversary Kick-off on Thursday, September 27th. The dinner/dance will be held at the Rodeway Inn Cow Palace – Courtyard from 6:00-9:00pm. The event will feature live 1930’s period music and a presentation by Richard Marold, a living historian who portrays Franklin D. Roosevelt, as well as a variety of door prizes.
Tickets are $25.00. Groups or businesses may choose to purchase tables of eight for $200.00. Proceeds go to the LCC Foundation. To purchase tickets, please contact Anne-Marie Crampton at 719.336.1520 or foundation@lamarcc.edu.
Richard Marold is a member of the Colorado Humanities Chautauqua Speakers Bureau and author of FDR – Pivotal American President. He holds a MA in Humanities from Penn State University and has portrayed FDR throughout Colorado as well as before educational and professional groups nationwide. He is an adjunct faculty member at Colorado State University – Pueblo.
Founded as the Junior College of Southeastern Colorado, the college’s first day of classes was on September 13, 1937, during the desperation of the Dust Bowl. Within its 75 years of operation, LCC has grown to offer 39 degrees and 23 certificates of study for over 1,000 students annually.
After the Kick-off, smaller events will take place at the college during the academic year. The final event will be an LCC Homecoming for alumni, current students, staff, and community members following commencement on Saturday, April 27th. LCC encourages alumni and community members to attend the events.
