(Lamar, CO) The region’s most affordable health fair returns with the 2nd Annual Community Wellness Expo on April 19th & 20th. The Community Wellness Expo is sponsored by High Plains Community Health Center, Frontier Bank and the Lamar Parks and Recreation Department. A $30 fasting blood work panel includes: Lipids (cholesterol); A1C (diabetes); CBC (infection & anemia); TSH (thyroid); Uric Acid (gout); LDH & CPK (heart enzymes); Po4 (bone health); and, CMP (kidney, liver function, glucose, and electrolytes). The PSA (prostate) test is also available for an additional $11.
The Community Wellness Expo will be held at the Lamar Community Building from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There will be over 40 stations of area organizations providing information on how to improve you and your family’s overall health. There will be give-a-ways and drawings at many of the stations, including a recumbent exercise bike courtesy of Frontier Bank. Admission is FREE and open to the public, regardless of whether labs are done.
High Plains Community Health Center was recently recognized for excellence this week (4/13/2012) by an inspection team from the United States Government as one of the top 5 percent of clinics in the nation. The clinic’s operations and scope of services was put under a microscope by a team of inspectors from the (U.S.) Bureau of Primary Health Care. Nationwide Federally Qualified Community Health Centers (FQHC’s), such as High Plains, are scheduled for Operational Assessments every five years to ensure they are meeting federal requirements.
Started in 1992, High Plains Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center that is locally operated by a volunteer board and tailors patient care to community needs regardless of ability to pay.
