Lamar Sales Tax Shows Modest August Gain

Year-to-date Sales and Use Tax collections for the City of Lamar were 2.34% above last year at this time, for an increase of $55,784.12. City Sales Tax collections for this past August were up 0.50% for a gain of $1,254.56 from the August 2010 collections. Total Sales Tax and Use Tax collections were up 0.99% for a $2,663.38 gain over last August. Total taxes collected since January is $2,435,407.29.
The 2011 amounts were collected during the period that the World Series softball games were held in Lamar in August. City Councilwoman Bev Haggard remarked during the Monday night council meeting, that even though the increments are small, they could have been considerably lower if not for the revenue gained from hosting the World Series Babe Ruth Softball 16U games.
