October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and some 50 Lamar area residents took part in a Linked in Pick, Woman’s Walk around Willow Creek Park walk to show their support of on-going efforts to educate the public healthy lifestyles which can help prevent the disease.
Sponsored in part by Prowers Medical Center, High Plains Community Health Center and Prowers County Public Health and Environment, the Saturday morning gathering were offered various nutritional tips, and some health snacks including grapes, bananas and bottled water before and after the event. Karen Bryant, COO of Prowers Medical Center welcomed the crowd, letting them know they could walk their own schedule, distance and pace. When they completed their trek, some walkers took advantage of yoga classes that were geared for adults and youngsters.
Continued educational events are planned for the community this month, with a Woman’s Wellness Campaign set for Monday, October 24 at the Lamar Cultural Events Center. A woman’s health night will be offered between 5:45 and 8pm that evening at which time additional health topics will be covered by local health care providers, and a ‘Keynote’ speaker will be feathered that evening, who will share their experience with breast cancer.
For additional information regarding the health night, contact Prowers Medical Center at 719-336-5147, HPCHC at 719-336-0261 or the Prowers County Health Nurses Office at 719-336-8721.
