“Quite a few migrant families have been arriving in southeast Colorado over the past week,” Gerri Jenkins said Thursday, July 21.  Jenkins, vice-president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Lamar Eagles, and other Auxiliary members, made a $200 donation to the Migrant Coalition members at High Plains Community Health Center.  Jenkins said, “This was the first time in the history of the Auxiliary we’ve made a donation to the Coalition.”

The $200 will be used to purchase medication for migrant workers, according to Becky Olivas, Outreach Supervisor at the Clinic.  Jenkins said a Coalition sponsored Gold Party fund raiser didn’t net as much as members had hoped for, and Auxiliary members decided to contribute $200 to the council following a Wednesday night meeting.  Last year the Migrant Council members  raised about $600 through bake sales and various dinners.  The money is used for medicine, food vouchers and other needed materials for the migrant families who will be working in southeast Colorado during the summer.  Those wishing to contribute to the Migrant Coalition can contact Olivas at HPCHC at 336-0261.
