Exercise and a Breakfast

Several dozen Lamar area residents kept with a long-standing tradition, or began a new one, when they pedaled their way to work this Wednesday morning, June 22, to observe Bike to Work Day.

A free breakfast was provided between 7am and 8am, courtesy of the Lamar Chamber Board of Directors, the Lamar Parks and Rec Department staff and LiveWell associates. The menu ran to such favorites as eggs, pancakes, bacon and juice. Those who were watching their waistlines more closely opted for whole wheat bagels, yogurt and a large bowl of fresh fruits. One or two persons, adhering to the spirit of the day, but not the letter, arrived on two-wheeler vehicles, albeit motorized.

A reminder, the Lamar Parks and Recreation Department hosts their annual Bike Rodeo at 9am this Saturday, June 25 at the pool parking lot at Willow Creek Park. Youngsters 12 and under will go through five different tests concerning road safety when biking. The event is free, and participating youngsters can register to win a bike, courtesy of a local merchant.
