Prowers Medical Group Awarded U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Contract

Prowers Medical Group announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide primary healthcare services to area Veterans, effective June 1st 2011. The new VA Lamar Primary Outpatient Clinic (POC) will be located at 405 Kendall Drive Lamar CO. The VA Lamar POC is located in the same building as the Convenient Care Clinic, Lamar Medical Clinic and Women’s Health Center, on the Prowers Medical Center campus. The VA Lamar POC will be open to provide primary healthcare services to area Veterans, Monday thru Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM; additional evening and weekend appointments will be available later this summer.
Prowers Medical Group has a proven performance record in the development of primary healthcare resources in southeast Colorado. In 2011, Prowers Medical Group has budgeted to employ six primary care physicians and six midlevel practitioners. A Certified Nurse Midwife and two Internal Medicine physicians will be joining Prowers Medical Group later this year. This year, Prowers Medical Group expects to provide more than 26,000 primary care patient encounters through the Convenient Care Clinic (Lamar CO); Holly Medical Clinic (Holly CO); Lamar Medical Clinic (Lamar CO); Las Animas Family Practice (Las Animas CO) and Women’s Health Center (Lamar CO).
Providers for the new VA Lamar POC will be Hilton Ray MD (Board Certified Family Practice); Sonia Seufer MD (Board Certified Family Practice); Barry Portner MD (Board Certified OB/GYN); Bryce Thacker FNP and Renee Weakley FNP. A Board Certified Internal Medicine physician and additional family nurse practitioners will be joining the VA Lamar POC staff later this summer.
Patient Care for the new VA Lamar POC will be coordinated by Steven Givan, RN Care Manager and Shirley Moore will serve the new clinic as the VA POC Clerical Associate. To receive care at the new VA Lamar POC, Veterans must be pre-approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
