“Water Flowin’ Keeps It Growin” was the theme chosen for this year’s Gateway Fair for the Holly Community. The overall Grand Champion award for the Saturday morning parade went to the Junior Class of 2017 for their offering.
The cloudy skies and misty morning didn’t deter any residents from lining the main road from Tony Garcia Drive, the parade assembly point. Ty Harmon moderated the parade, listing the entries which included an honor to the Grand Marshals, local World War II veterans who served their country with distinction over sixty years ago. They were Lonnie Hess, Ted Sitts, Fred Potorff (who was not able to attend) and Clyde Kennedy who was celebrating his 70th wedding anniversary on parade day.
Friday activities included the rabbit, poultry sheep and beef show with judging in all divisions. Saturday featured the opening of the exhibit building following the parade; horse races and a tractor pull at the fairgrounds at Gateway Downs, a community BBQ at the sale barn and the market animal sale at 6:30pm. A dance completed the events of the day. The weather cooperated as the sun burned its way through the morning cloud cover to provide some extra warmth on the day’s events.
