New Finish for Gym Floor at Lamar Community Building

The summer season is ending and before the fall sports schedule gets underway, a flooring company has begun a three week assignment, stripping the protective sealant, paint and a thin layer of wood from the gym floor at the Lamar Community Building.
Rick Akers, Lamar Parks and Recreation Director, said the process will help preserve the gym floor and is a much-needed project. This past April, Akers addressed the Lamar City Council, explaining that a decade has passed since the gym floor had been refinished, and it’s seen some wear and tear over those years. Regular maintenance has consisted of a light sanding and finishing twice a year, but the finish is starting to peel from the bottom and not adhering to the wood base. Two high school volleyball games have been rescheduled to accommodate the work, expected to last until late this month
