The 2015 Colorado Junior Rodeo Association will be held at the Prowers County Fairgrounds August 14 – 16. This marks the 21st year for the rodeo which will see over 100 participants and families in town for the competition which features the top 15 contestants in each event vying for the top prizes. Prize money, scholarships and various prizes worth over $130,000 will be at stake and will be awarded at the conclusion of the rodeo this Sunday.

Rodeo performances will begin at 8:30 each morning at the fairgrounds with free admission. Events include barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, flag racing, dummy roping, breakaway roping, chute dogging and dally ribbon roping. Junior and Senior divisions will also feature team roping and parent/child team roping. The first two go rounds of the parent/child team roping will be held on Friday with the 3rd go round on Saturday. Goat roping will be on Friday and Saturday evenings. A BBQ is set for the fairgrounds on Saturday evening. The silent auction will begin noon on Friday and end at 5pm on Saturday. The Lamar Elks Lodge will host the rodeo participants to their steak night on Friday evening.

A businessman’s goat tying competition will be held on Saturday at 4pm and open team roping will be held that evening at 7:30pm. A cowboy church meeting will be held on Sunday at 7am and the third rodeo performance will follow and conclude with the annual awards ceremony at the Lamar Community Building.
