Garage Fire Quickly Contained by Prowers County Rural Fire Dept

The Prowers County Rural Fire Department extinguished a structure fire at the Meadows at 8088 CR MM.3 this past Sunday, August 2, 2015. The call was received at 10:30 in the morning and the Prowers County Sheriff’s office also responded.
A detached garage, measuring 30’ x 25’ was on fire and the flames were in contact with the residence owned by the Kevin Wilson family, about 15 feet away. Within one minute after set up, the County Fire Department had the garage 90% extinguished. There was minor smoke in the residence and no fire damage. A thermal imager was used to make sure no fire extension was in the attic of the home.
Lamar Fire provided standby assistance for other fire calls during this event. Nine firefighters responded with five apparatus and obtained control of the fire within 10 minutes of their arrival a total of 5,975 gallons of water was used for extinguishment.
The cause of the fire is believed to be hot embers or ash which ignited an exterior wall covering in the garage with touched off residue from sawn wood.
