CSP Reports Fatality on Highway 287 South of Lamar

The Colorado State Patrol investigated a two vehicle crash involving one fatal injury which occurred early Tuesday afternoon, August 25, 2015, approximately 12 miles south of Lamar.
A 2013 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Highway 287 when it went into the northbound lane of traffic and collided with the left saddle tank and left rear dual tires of a 2012 Volvo Tractor which was traveling northbound. After impact the Ford continued southbound, rotating counter-clockwise, going off the right side of the toad. The Ford came to rest on its wheels facing south. The Volvo continued northbound going off the right side of the road. While off-road, the vehicle continued northbound coming to rest on its wheels facing west.
The Ford’s driver, 67 year old Larry Wilhelm of Pekin, IL was restrained at the time of the crash. Mr. Wilhelm was transported to Prowers Medical Center for treatment, but died as a result of his injuries.
The Volvo’s driver, 57 year old David Vrbas of Stausburg, CO, was restrained at the time of the crash. He was not injured during the crash. Drugs and alcohol are not being considered as contributing factors to the crash.
