Prowers County Combined Courts issued a news release, Friday, May 8, stating the Court will open the record in the case regarding Marla Abling at 10am this Tuesday, May 12, 2015, for “Purposes of the announcement of a plea by the Defendant.”
Abling was arrested by the Lamar Police Department in January 2013 in connection with the death of 45 year old Rory Alba of Lamar on January 23rd of that year. She has been held in the Prowers County Jail since that time. Abling has been represented by public defenders Ray Torrez and Russell Zane from La Junta. Various court dates have been held for the charges against her, including an effort for immunity under the state’s, “Make My Day” law, which was eventually denied.
Little information has been available to the media following a court-issued ‘gag order’ on the case. The people have been represented in the case by Prowers County District Attorney, Jennifer Swanson.
