Car – Train Collision in Otero County

The Colorado State Patrol investigated an injury traffic crash that occurred on May 30, 2015 at approximately 9:55 AM. The crash occurred on Otero County Road 9.5, 60 feet north of Colorado Highway 50. This location is approximately 1.5 miles west of Manzanola.
A green 1998 Chevy Malibu driven by Staci Davis of Manzanola was traveling northbound on Otero County 9.5 when it stopped partially on railroad tracks at a railroad crossing. A BNSF train with 4 engines and 120 loaded coal cars traveling east bound struck the Chevy’s right front side with its left front. The Chevy was knocked to the left off the train tracks. The Chevy remained on its wheels and came to rest facing southeast.
The driver was wearing a seat belt. She sustained minor injuries. A five year old girl in the back seat was seated in a booster and sustained only minor injuries. A one year old girl in the back seat was properly restrained in a child car seat and was not injured.
All three were transported to Parkview Medical Hospital in Pueblo by ambulance. Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be a factor in this crash.
Possible charges are pending. Nobody on the train was injured.
