Iberdrola Helps with a Donation

A recent $1,000 donation from Iberdrola Wind Energy has helped raise funds for the relatively new organization, Prowers Area Imagination Library.  The donation was presented to the group at the SDS offices on Thursday, May 14.

Amy Karr, Co-coordinator for the organization, says the concept was created by country-western singer, Dolly Parton.  “The funds collected are used to provide age appropriate, free books to children up to the age of five in Prowers County and McClave,” she explained.  When parents register their child, they’ll receive a free book a month until they turn five.  The Dollywood Foundation is responsible for book selection and distribution. The program was developed by the noted singer in 1995 for children in her home community of Servier, Tennessee.  The program went national in 1999 with over 1,400 communities in the US, Canada and the UK participating

Karr said the response has been almost overwhelming, “We’re always looking for donors and have received a lot of help from Iberdrola Renewables, as well as 4Rivers Equipment and Walmart and other organizations, plus private donations.  We work under the non-profit designation from SDS and maintain a separate account under their financial umbrella.”  To register a child or to make a donations, contact Amy Karr at 688-0530 or Nikki Walker at 688-6029.
