Louis E. Torrez…December 11, 1947 – April 10, 2015

Mass of Christian Burial for Las Animas resident, Louis Ernest Torrez will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Las Animas, Colorado with Father Raymond Grimes officiating.  Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Las Animas, Colorado.  Interment will take place at Fort Lyon National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

Louis was born on December 11, 1947 in Las Animas, Colorado to Tony T. Torrez and Mary M. (Maraz) Torrez. He passed away on April 10, 2015 in Denver, CO.

Louis served three years and 8 months in the United States Navy, including two years in Vietnam, and retired from the Army National Guard.

He had many interests; fishing, helping everyone he could, and loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. Louis served as both state commander and president of the board of directors for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Louis is survived by his wife, Cathy (Daniher) Torrez; children, Jacinto A. Torrez of Amarillo, TX, Maritza Dancik of Tulsa, OK, Robert L. Martinez and wife Dannette of Lamar, CO, Brian A. Maritinez of Las Animas, CO; sister, Toni Torrez of Las Animas, CO; brother, Ray Torrez and wife Helen of Lilly, Pennsylvania; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Janie Vallejo; and brother, Manual Torrez.
