The 2014-2015 Women’s Basketball team gave the new recruits a very warm welcome.

(Lamar, Colorado; April 16, 2015) On April 9, 2015, the Lamar women’s basketball program signed its first five recruits from the class of 2015.  The five new players include Jamie Clawson, a 5’8” Forward from Highland High School; RJ Kuhn, a 5’5” Guard from Fossil Ridge High School; Emily Lambrecht, a 5’7” Guard from Canon City High School; Kaylan Miller, a 5’5” Guard from Canon City High School; and Brette Southworth, a 6’0” Forward from Loveland High School.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have these high-quality young ladies join our program next year!  Jamie brings outstanding athleticism to our frontcourt.  RJ brings in a very high basketball IQ as a point guard, much like G (Gabriela Jimenez, sophomore).  Emily can really shoot the ball and she comes from the great Canon City team coached by Dan Heath.  Kaylan, from that same Canon City team, brings vision and a feisty attitude, much like Ariel (Rosa, sophomore).  Brette has a great motor and very nice size and strength, which we’ll need around the basket next year, commented Coach Tom Sutherland.  “All five girls will be expected to contribute immediately.  Given how many we will lose off this year’s team, our young kids will have to step up and perform from day one.”

Each of these young ladies has been successful both on and off the court.  They have all have enjoyed individual and team success at the high school level.  They are excited about playing in college, especially so with the LCC women’s basketball style of play.

Coach Sutherland went on to state, “From an overall standpoint, all of these young ladies are outstanding individuals and exceptional students, just the type of players we expect to have in the program.  It’s our hope, and belief, that these young ladies will help the program continue to be fast-paced and high scoring.”
