Applications for the 2015 Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Prowers County by contacting: Karen Ketcham at 719-336-5550 or 719-688-3771, or at karenketcham@core-financial.net.
The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and to their community and the problems limiting the advancement of the status of women in their own country and worldwide. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award Program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow.
Applications are due to: Zonta Club of Prowers County, P.O.Box 1124 or Karen Ketcham, 111 West Parmenter, Lamar, CO 81052, by April 1, 2015. Applicants of age 16-19 on 1st April each year, living in a Zonta district/region, or a citizen of a Zonta country at the time of application are eligible to apply.
The Zonta Club of Prowers County was chartered in May, 1949, and has been in existence for sixty-three years. Members work to raise funds for scholarships to provide women with financial assistance to attend college. The Club also provides financial support for local agencies such as the Lamar Domestic Safety Resource Center and the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southeast Colorado. Local funds are raised from the proceeds of the sale of Zonta Planners in the fall, the Holiday Home Tour in December and the annual Rose Day sale held each March to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Zonta International, with world headquarters in Oak Brook, IL, USA, is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta International. The Award is funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation YWPA Award fund.
