CSP Investigates Single Vehicle Fatality in Otero County

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single vehicle crash that took place on Colorado Highway 350 near milepost 39, in Otero County. The crash resulted in a single fatality as well as one suffering serious injuries.

A 1988 Chevrolet S10 Pickup was traveling westbound on Colorado Highway 350. The Chevrolet was traveling through a left hand curve when the driver encountered a section of icy roadway and lost control of the vehicle.

The Chevrolet began to rotate in  a counter-clockwise direction, departed the westbound lane, traveled through the eastbound lane and onto the dirt portion of the eastbound shoulder where it rolled ¾ times while ejecting both the driver and passenger and colliding with a fence.

The driver Jesus Rodriguez, 49, of Trinidad was not wearing his seatbelt and suffered serious injuries. Mr. Rodriguez was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The passenger was identified as Max Garcia, 49 of Rocky Ford. Mr. Garcia was not wearing his safety belt and was pronounced deceased on scene.

At this time, alcohol and or drugs are not considered a factor in the crash. However, the crash remains under investigation.
