Lawrence Leroy Mitchell…August 18, 1927 – December 9, 2014

A celebration of life funeral service for Lawrence L. Mitchell will be held at the Las Animas Church of Christ at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 15, 2014. Interment will follow at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery, Las Animas, CO.

Lawrence Leroy Mitchell was born on August 18, 1927 to Edwin Lewis Mitchell and Ella Louise Kamradt in Grady, New Mexico. He passed from this life on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in Pueblo, Co.

Lawrence married Nellie Ruth Kindrick on December 7, 1946. In the early 1950’s, Lawrence and Nellie moved to Las Animas, CO, where he provided for his family as a dairy farmer. Throughout his time as a dairyman, Lawrence was a member of the Mountain Empire Dairyman’s Association. Lawrence and Nellie received recognition from both the 4-H and FFA organizations.

Lawrence was a member of the Las Animas Church of Christ and was actively involved until his health no longer permitted.

Sometime following Nellie’s passing in October of 1984, Lawrence began courting Adalyn Graham. Lawrence and Adalyn were united in marriage on December 28, 1985.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Mitchell; his second wife, Adalyn Mitchell; parents, Lewis and Ella Mitchell; brothers, Edwin and Tyrone; sons, Gerald and Howard; grandchildren , Tayla, Tony, and Andy.

Lawrence is survived by his children Larry (Nancy) Mitchell of Las Animas, CO, Charlotte (Dale) Paas of Basalt, CO, Charlene (Mitch) Dietz of Moore, OK, Cindy (Terry) Kitson of Topeka, KS, Ernie (Jackie) Graham of La Junta, CO, Tobey (Roger) Nickels of Pueblo, CO, Donna Sue (Gary) Wygal of Searcy, AZ, Chris (Penny) Graham of Fort Worth, TX; daughter-in-law, Melody Mitchell of Kit Carson, CO; twenty seven grandchildren; and twenty nine  great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Las Animas Church of Christ, the New Mexico Children’s Home, or the Mitchell House Children’s Home in Kit Carson, CO, in care of Horber Funeral Chapel: P.O. Box 431 Las Animas, CO 81054.
