Hasty – McClave Fire Department

Clay Hasser was recently named the EMT of the Year for the Hasty/McClave Fire Department.  Clay has born in Lamar and graduated from McClave High School.  He joined the department 12 years ago and has been fire chief for the past decade.  He constantly upgrades his service levels as his EMT plus and IV Certification allows him to be an advanced EMT.  He’s completed the Water Rescue Class, ICS Class 100-200-300 & 400, as well as a farm mechanics class and Type 2 Wildland Firefighter.  Clay and his wife Tandy have two boys…Hayden at 2 ½ years and one year old Hudson.

Matthew Mata was named the Hasty/McClave Firefighter of the Year during the recent Christmas Banquet.  Mata grew up in Wiley and studied broadcasting while attending Pueblo-CSU.  Matthew has been with the department for three years and is a fully certified Firefighter 2.  His past DJ training comes in handy for dances and various events.  He and his wife Shalah have a step-daughter, step-son and a little boy is on the way.

McClave Community News

Joe Kasza was the first place winner for the November 22 Big Bale Hay Contest in McClave.  Maxine Kasza placed second and Joe Kasza came in third.  Crystal Kiniston took first place honors for her chicken noodle soup entry in the cook off contest.  Second and third place was split between Stella Walter with her chicken chowder entry and Doris Hemphill won a prize for her chili.

Robin Grammer had the best tasting pecan pie cookies; Teale Hemphill placed second with her cinnamon chocolate chip entries and there was a third place tie between Terri Breckett for her Breckenridge Bars and Maxine Kasza for her Red Velvet cookies.

And there was more food to enjoy and sample.  The pie baking competition had several categories with best crust to Cherly Brewer for apple pie; Trudy Roesch with Chocolate French Silk, Darrel Sykes for Peanut Butter pie and Overall Pie honors went to Toby Van Campen for her English Toffee Cappuccino Pie.
