PMC Revitalizing “A Star is Born” Wall

Just as stars illuminate the heavens, a newly born infant can brighten a family’s world with their arrival. To celebrate local births, Prowers Medical Center Foundation developed “A Star is Born” wall located just outside the New Beginnings Birth Center in 2012. Parents, friends or relatives are invited to commemorate the new arrival with a star that graces the wall to the Birth Center’s wing.
The latest star was installed on Tuesday, November 12, joining the current sixteen stars that decorate the wall since the concept was developed in 2012. This was a special event as this star was placed for a baby whose parents are both employed by Prowers Medical Center. Claira Currell is the daughter of Kia Currell, employed in the Facilities Management Department and Krista Currell, who is a Medical Laboratory Technician at the hospital’s laboratory. Also present was provider Sharon Hendricks, Certified Nurse Midwife/Family Nurse Practitioner who was there with the Currell’s every step of the way. The Currell’s marked Claira’s first birthday with the new star.
A purchase of a star helps fund the PMC Foundation to assist in projects that are given back to the community. A six inch star costs $75 and can be engraved with five lines of information to preserve the new arrival.
Susan Lamont, of the Foundation, said the organization has planned to revamp the children’s waiting room at the clinic and will make use of local artists for the decoration project. Contact Susan Lamont at 719-336-2318 for more information.
