Lola Ferril (Foster) Allard, affectionately known as Ferril, was born in Miami, Oklahoma on February 11, 1921 to Frank and Maude (McClure) Foster. She passed away on November 12, 2014 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta at the age of 93.
Ferril grew up during the dust bowl. Her father worked for the railroad and her mother stayed home to raise 9 children. She and her siblings received their education in a one room school house where she graduated from the 8th grade. Many years later, Ferril obtained her G.E.D. and was quite proud of it. Most of her education was learned from living a long life.
Ferril met Edgar Allard at a friend’s party and in 1940, they were married in Independence, Kansas. Edgar, Ferril, and their two children, Maudie and Tom moved to Colorado in 1944. They lived in the Holly, McClave, and Las Animas areas. Ferril and Edgar then retired in 1976 and moved to La Junta. For 15 years Ferril ran a Veteran’s home. She loved her chickens and milk cows and enjoyed gardening, canning, and pie making. She dearly loved her family and was always there for them. Ferril wanted to know that each one loved the Lord and would join her in Heaven one day. She was a faithful member of the Friends Church and always a willing worker.
Ferril is survived by her daughter, Maudie Sue Vela of Aurora, CO; son, Tommy Lee Allard and wife, Kathy of Las Animas, CO; 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar; 5 brothers; 1 sister; and two half-sisters.
