It’s Time to Order Seedling Trees

CSU Extension Website

This year the Colorado Forest Service is partnering directly with the Prowers County Soil Conservation District in Lamar to sell seedling trees.  They have a wide variety of trees available and this program enables property owners of any size to obtain trees at a nominal cost.  Order forms are available at the new FSA/NRCS building located at 1501 S. Main Street in Lamar.  You may reach them via telephone at (719) 336-3437.

Advantages of planting trees around your home/farmstead include the following:

*   Improve air quality.  Trees absorb carbon dioxide and replenish the atmosphere with oxygen.
*   Save energy by cooling in the hotter months and as windbreaks during the winter.
*   Reduce noise.
*   Improve water quality by reducing runoff and erosion.
*   Improve wildlife diversity by providing habitat.
*   Provide income from Christmas trees sales.  Windbreak trees can only be resold as cut Christmas trees.

They have a great selection of evergreen, deciduous trees and shrubs available.   Order early as many species sell out quickly and supplies are limited so it is a first-come basis. Orders will be taken until March 1, 2015 with the seedlings arriving in mid-March.
