11th Annual Fantasy Tree Set for Saturday

The 11th Annual Fantasy Tree fundraising event is set for this Saturday, November 22 at the Lamar Elks Lodge, beginning at 6pm.
Funds raised through the auction sale of decorated Christmas trees and wreathes, plus a silent auction, help support the annual expense for maintenance and operation of a safe house operated by the Domestic Safety Resources Center which serves a four county area in southeast Colorado. The house, originated by DSRC director, Doris Hughes, offers a temporary refuge for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse in Prowers, Baca, Cheyenne and Kiowa Counties.
Although the funds are used for a serious cause, the Fantasy Tree celebration offers entertainment, festivities, food and an opportunity to glimpse the tree decorating talents of citizens and organizations from the area. Santa Claus is on hand for the young and young at heart, All the Right Moves provides entertainment from the senior dance troupe and there are always plenty of tasty hors d’oeurves filling several tables in the main room at the Elks Lodge.
Attendance has always been free, but anyone wishing to make a $5 offering to help defray expenses also helps to contribute to the DSRC Safe House. Contact Chairman Lisa Thomas for more information at 688-6107.
