Lamar Enjoys Football Victory for Homecoming 2014

There was no school for Lamar students this past Friday, but many were busy preparing for the traditional 2pm parade down Main Street, rousing support for the teams’ home game against Manitou Springs. It did the trick with the Savages outscoring Manitou with a 14 to 7 victory.

The morning rain clouds ended about an hour before the floats started their journey, and featured Gary and Estelle Pelley as this year’s Grand Marshalls.  Despite the autumn chill in the air, residents and students lined the streets to view the floats and to wish the students well.

The day was far from over as the 2014 Homecoming Tailgate Party was set to go from 5pm to 6:15pm, featuring free hamburgers and hot dogs off the grill on the east side of Savage Stadium and the Community Building. Because of the change of continued rain, the dining area was moved indoors.  A dance rounded out the evening at 9pm following the Savages match-up against the visiting Mustangs.

Editor’s Note:  An incorrect score was given in the original article with Lamar winning 21 to 20.
