Afternoon bargain hunters shook off the early autumn chill in Lamar this past Friday afternoon, turning out along Main Street for the Fall Festival. Residents had an opportunity to discuss a proposal to develop the parking space north of the Shore Arts Center into a ‘pocket park’. Kristin Cypher, Vice-President of Britina Design and Emily Nieschburg, from Healthy Places Initiative, discussed how the area could be used as a future site for small-scale concerts, incorporating public seating with shrubbery and plants. Children’s art renditions showed how they envisioned the parking lot could be developed were also displayed, along with table and bench settings to give the public an idea of how a small, public park could be constructed.
Just next door, standing room only best describes the scene for the first annual Miss & Mister Fall Festival Pageant that featured 36 contestants in various age groups for boys and girls. The Pageant was a huge success with all the families involved, plus the contestants who showed poise, beauty and charm. The event was developed and coordinated by Diana Woller who said that plans are already underway for next year’s event.
