Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking information about a poaching incident that occurred in southeast Colorado near the town of Kim. The carcass of a buck mule deer was found on Las Animas CR 197.6 on September 11th.
On the afternoon of September 11th, Wildlife Officer Aaron Bartleson was contacted regarding a dead buck mule deer that was shot and abandoned. The deer had its head removed and the carcass was dumped off of the side of the county road.
Individuals who kill big game animals in Colorado and abandon the carcass may face serious charges including any of the following: felony charges, permanent loss of hunting and fishing privileges, and a potential prison sentence.
“Killing a buck deer and abandoning the carcass is a serious offense, but the individual who did this still has an opportunity to come forward and turn themselves in,” Bartleson said.
The public is reminded that poaching is a serious crime and that poachers take away wildlife opportunities from responsible hunters and the citizens of the state of Colorado.
Anyone with further information may contact Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Wildlife Manager Mike Brown at 719-980-0025 or Aaron Bartleson at 719-940-3587.
