A ‘Right’ of Summer

What could be so right than a cup of cold ice cream on an early summer’s evening? Lamar residents were forming several lines at Willow Creek Park, Thursday evening, July 31, for the annual Ice Cream Social and free swim night, sponsored by the Lamar Chamber of Commerce and Parks & Recreation Department.
As early evening shadows stretched out across the park grass, folks with an appetite for homemade ice cream, congregated around several serving tables for bowls of chilled vanilla ice cream and a separate table for toppings..chocolate, strawberry or caramel syrups.
People sat and visited with friends and neighbors at the shelter just south of the lineup of swimmers, waiting to gain entry to the pool for a free night of splashing and diving and swimming.
Others stood around and talked, or some just found a comfortable spot on the lawn and dug in to the traditional, tasty, summertime treat. Several hundred people were on hand for the annual mid-summer event at Willow Creek Park.
