A Celebration of Life for longtime Lamar resident, LeRoy Nickelson will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Reverend Ramon Robledo of the Lamar United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of the Lamar VFW Post #3621 will follow in the Hartman Cemetery.


Visitation for LeRoy will be held from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the funeral home.


Mr. Nickelson was born on July 25, 1917 in Bent County on the family homestead south of Las Animas, Colorado to Clarence LeRoy, Sr. and Mary Josephine (Lucas) Nickelson and passed away at his home west of Lamar on May 23, 2014 with his family by his side. LeRoy was 96.


He is preceded in death by his wife Wynona on June 28, 1987, his parents and his sister Georgia Munger.


LeRoy is survived by his son Robert (Toni) Nickelson of Lamar, his daughters; Alnita “Nita” Cameron, Brenda (Steve) Kinser, Susan (Kent) Fisher all of Lamar and Diana (Steve) Gleichmann of Aurora, CO. Also surviving are his 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren as well as his siblings; Rosalie Fein of California, Marilyn Idler of Lamar and Danny (Susan) Nickelson of Virginia other relatives including a brother-in-law Wil (Judy) Moyer of Roy, Utah and many friends also survive.


Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the Peacock Funeral Home.
