Willow Creek Park in Lamar will host the annual observance of Cinco de Mayo and the Wild West BBQ, Friday and Saturday, May 9-10.
Almost 30 vendors have entered the annual Kansas City sanctioned BBQ event and other local entries have signed up for the Backyard Grillers competition and green chili cookoff. A kid’s carnival and a car show are also planned for the festivities. This marks the second year the two events have been combined and showcased at Willow Creek Park.
The BBQ vendors will open at Noon on May 9 and the backyard grillers will start their competition at 3pm. Steaks will be provided for the grillers, but they’ll need to bring their own grill. The entry fee is $10 and the top prize is $100 and will be determined by 7pm. The carnival opens operations at 4pm and the green chili will be judged beginning at 7pm.
Cinco de Mayo activities start with the car show from 9am to 3pm and all entries are free with registration from 7am to 9am. The BBQ vendors are back for another day at 10am along with commercial vendors and the carnival rides are open at that time. The Wild West BBQ Cook-Off awards will be presented at 3pm. The Metal Mayhem demolition derby will start at 6pm, presented by Lamar Speedway (Lamar Racing Club).
