Several communities in Prowers County held elections for town board positions this past Tuesday, April 1.

Four candidates were running for three seats on the Wiley Town Council.  Julie Esgar received 81 votes, Chuck Miller and Jack Martin each had 79 and all three will serve four year terms on the board.  Leigh Ann Neilsen received 42 votes.

Granada didn’t have an election with ballots, as there were three candidates for three open positions for Trustees.  Shannon Venturi, Argie Lee Thrall Jr., and Andi Riddle will be seated.  Riddle returned for a full term as Trustee.  Granada voters also turned down the proposal to sell the town’s electric utility to SECPA, Southeast Colorado Power Authority, by a 53 to 30 vote.  The $475,000 purchase price was rejected and as such, the town government will continue to administer billing and day to day operations for its customers.

The town of Hartman voters elected Leslie J Palmer as mayor with 20 ballots.  There were seven candidates for six council seats.  New council members will be Esther Palmer with 20 votes, Melissa Venegas with 20, Andrew Palmer with 19, Gabriel Venegas with 18, Kord Benson with 15 and Cecelia Gonsales with 13 votes.  Milene Bensen received 12 which were not enough for the top six ballots cast.  By a 12 to 10 vote, Hartman residents rejected the proposal to limit the number of council members to four from the current six.
