CPW Offers Free Fishing Clinics for Kids

LAMAR, Colo. – Are your kids glued to the TV? Get them hooked on fishing instead. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering several free fishing clinics this spring in southeast Colorado.
“These events are a great way to get kids outside and trying something new,” said Kevin Mahan, District Wildlife Manager in Lamar. “And who knows? It just might become a favorite hobby of theirs.”
The fishing clinics are for those 15 years and younger. No registration is required and kids participating will receive a free fishing pole.
The clinics will cover tips on casting, bait fishing, water safety, fish identification and strategies for catching more fish.
Fishing clinics will be held at the following dates and locations:
Saturday, April 26: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Midwest Farms (Holly Gravel Pit)
Sunday, April 27: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Leonard Hudnall Pond (Las Animas)
Saturday, May 3: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Turk’s Pond
Saturday, May 10: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. North Gateway Park (Lamar)
Sunday, May 18: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jackson’s Pond (Eads)
Saturday May 31: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. La Junta City Pond
Remember to pack snacks, water, a lawn chair, sunscreen and a hat.
