Funeral services for Willie D. Jackson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Horber Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Bent/Las Animas Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas.
Willie Daniel Jackson was born on September 2, 1929 in Sayer, OK to Daniel Morgan and Esther Lowrance Jackson. He passed away on February 6, 2014 in Fowler, Colorado at the age of 84.
As a child who grew up during the depression, Willie sometimes stayed with uncles and aunts in Oklahoma and Colorado as his father worked many different places. His mother died at an early age. As a teenager Willie decided to quit school so he could work. He worked at a grocery store in Las Animas for four years until he went into the Army. Willie was in the Army from 1951 to 1953, serving in Korea. After Korea he spent 20 years working at the Army Depot. In 1953 Willie was united in marriage to Lovina Chambers in Las Animas. To this union they had two sons, Daniel and David. After Willie retired he enjoyed woodworking and C.B. Radio work.
Willie is survived by his wife, Lovina of the home; sons, Daniel Jackson and wife, Celeste of Olney Springs, CO, and David Jackson of Fowler, CO; brother, Donald Jackson and wife Rhonda of Las Animas, CO; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl; sister, Ima Jean; two step-brothers; and two step-sisters.
