The Prowers County Sheriff’s Office responded to 208 calls in December, 2013. The numbers may have been down a bit due to the holiday schedule as Lamar had 116 calls with 50 jail related and 8 for warrant arrests; the County had 62 calls with eleven for traffic accidents and four for civil disputes; Holly had 21 calls with two each for harassment, disturbances and serving papers and restraining orders.
Under Investigations, two new cases were assigned and nine were cleared. The investigations in the sheriff’s office brought eight charges and nine investigations are still actives.
Bookings at the county jail for December 2013 were down compared to last year at 85 and 103, bringing the total for the year to 1,264. Male bookings were down 56 to 81 for the period and female bookings were up 29 to 22. Combined, there were 17 inmates jailed for felonies, 40 for misdemeanors, 20 for warrants and 36 were pre-sentenced inmates. The average daily number of inmates for the month was 48 with 62 the highest and 32 the lowest.
There were 5,078 people who were screened at the county courthouse in December for a daily average of 231. Courthouse Security made six arrests based on warrants for persons noted entering the premises.
Deputies were notified of a missing hunter in the area of CR2 and CRX at about 3am on December 29. Search crews were gathered along with two search planes. James Bailey, 71, of Alamosa, was located Sunday morning at about 11:30am by plane and was taken to Prowers Medical Center for treatment of dehydration and exposure. Bailey was missing for approximately 20 hours and survived well-below freezing weather and a snow storm through the night.
Cost of inmate meals in December was $10,677.81 and medical expenses totaled $1,588.31. Expenses in December came to $158,950.95 and revenue for that period was $24,631.27.
