Clifford L. Stuart…December 30, 1923 – January 30, 2014

                Funeral services for Las Animas, Colorado resident, Clifford Stuart will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Parkview Baptist Church in Las Animas, Colorado.  Burial will follow in the Las Animas/Bent Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Horber Funeral Chapel.

                Clifford Lawrence Stuart was born on December 30, 1923 in Wiley, Colorado to Clifford P. and Maude D. (Miller) Stuart.  He was the sixth of seven children. He passed away on January 30, 2014 in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 90.

                Clifford attended school in Wiley until he was in the 10th grade.  On Thanksgiving Day in 1935 he met Alice Lirley.  In 1940 he decided to go to Westcliffe to work for Kettle Cattle for a year.  In 1941 Clifford had a job herding sheep.  During this time he broke two horses to ride.  In 1942 he went to San Louis Valley until he was called into the Army.  Clifford married that “lovely gal”, Alice Lirley on August 18, 1945 in Syracuse, KS.  To this union they had three children; Eugene born on October 7, 1946, Linda born on May 20, 1949, and Clifford Jr. “Spike” born on January 10, 1953.

                Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford P. and Maude Stuart; siblings, Hazel, Lucile, Mary, Amos, Herbert and June; daughter, Linda on October 7, 1969; and son, Eugene on May 11, 2008.

                He is survived by his wife, Alice Stuart of the home; son, Clifford L. “Spike” Stuart and wife, Shirley of Hasty, CO ; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
